The Shar Mountain Range, the longest in the country, rarely descends below 1800 meters. In these breath-taking mountains (also the beginning of the Macedonia’s cross-country trail), you will enjoy amazing landscapes, cold mountain springs, and walk along the borders of Kosovo and Albania.
You’ll enjoy gentle hikes and visit historical villages in Mavrovo National Park, while witnessing the long tradition of nomadic sheepherding. From Mavrovo you can hike to the highest peak Golem Korab, in both Macedonia and Albania, or enjoy demanding hikes on the steep Deshat mountain peaks.
In Galichica National Park— from the Magaro Peak—and you will have the view of both Prespa and Ohrid Lakes, both natural and millions of years old.
In Pelister National Park, you will enjoy hiking in Macedonia’s southeastern quadrant. Endemic pine forests, granite boulders, and fresh mountain springs accompany you most of the way … as will historical markers from the First world war and views to the Aegean Sea.
