Mountains in Macedonia
Using the small local ski centres as a base – in Popova Shapka and Mavrovo, for instance – one can access the backcountry for high mountains with gentle ridges, which offer you the possibility to cover large terrain and find fresh lines with ease.
Jablanica is one of the most beautiful mountain in Macedonia. Located on the border with Albania, where Yalanica is a National Park, it offers great skiing. The peaks reach up to 2270 meters, and there is abundance of terrain to ski. We can option fro steep long lines, entering into Albania, and short steep gullies on the Macedonian side. Also a lot of wide playfull terrain to keep us going the whole day. All that with amazing view of Ohrid Lake.
Pelister National Park
Sk itouring in Pelsiter National Park will give you the chanche to start from deep pine forest and exit high above the tree line – enjoying fine tree skiing on the long way down. Kozuf is a mountain set on the natural border of Macedonia and Greece, and is rewarded with fresh snow coming form Aegean Sea. The small and Charming city of Gevgelia, can be your base for a great ski touring vacation.
Galichica National Park
Galichica National Park is nested between Ohrid and Prespa Lakes. With the highest area reaching out to 2260 meters and significant annual snowfalls, ski touring and skiing on Galichica gives amazing rides and breathtaking views of the lakes. The choice of lines is quite big, and we can ski down wide meadows or long steep gullies. All that in reach of the amazing UNESCO protected city of Ohrid.
Enjoying a ski tour in total willderness in the Korab mountain range will not only give you the chance to be on the top of Macedonia and Albania’s highest peaks, but will provide opportunity to feel the total backcountry. Transfer to Popova Shapka. Accomodation i hotel Scardus 4*.
You will be met by our guide upon arrival. He will make a full briefing about the areas where we ski, and the current snow conditions and avalanche danger. You will isnspect together the equipment, we will provid additional equipment if you have stated you need some. Dinner and over night.
Ski touring trip to Tito’speak 2748 m/asl. Snow cat assited tour.
We take an early ride up with SnowCat to 2550 meters, from where we continue along the ridge towards Tito’s peak. After the ascent to Tito’s peak we ski down in an east exposed cirque valley towards the area of Gorna Leshnica – 1800 meters. We skin up to the ridge of Plat, and ski down to the road at around of 1600 meters of altitude. From there we can have a pick up from the SnowCat or we tour back to Popova Shapka and ski down to our hotel where relaxing evening with SPA and traditional dinner awaits .
Total ascent for the day 1450 meters.
Ski down: 1200 meters.
Length: 18 km.
Early breakfast and checkout. Drive to Vejce village, about 1 hour. Ski touring trip to Kobilica Peak 2528 meters. We may carry the skies for about 100 meters vertical to get to the snow line, and from there we start touring in gentle pastures until we access to the base of Kobilica peak. Kobilica is one of the most scenic peaks on Shar Mountain based on the border betweeen Macedonia and Kosovo. The second part of the tour is steeper and aproaches the ridges in of the peak, from where a great view toward the two countries opens. We choose our line to ski down, from a massive east or south facing face, and we decent to the village. After the decent, it is possible to have lunch in the village and then transfer to Trnica in Mavrovo National Park, and spent our night in Korab Trnica Hotel ( or similar) .
Total ascent for the day: 1300 meters
Ski down: 1300 meters.
Length: 14 km.
Ski touring to Kepi Bard 2638 meters asl. After the early breakfast, we will be picked up by 4×4 vehicles and transported to the starting point of our tour, at about of 1450 meters of altitude. In the beginning we tour in a nice beech forest, but soon after, when we exit the forest we will see multiple peaks and possible lines for decent. We tour in a valley which takes us to a beautiful ridge toward the valley of Kepi Bard or the White Hat Peak. Kepi Bard is positioned right before Korab, the highest peak in both Macedonia and Albania. When we come to the base of the peak, we will see the east and northeast exposed valley awaiting our decent.
The last par of our tour may need crampons so we can exit on the peak. From there we can choose the most appealing safe option for descent from long steep faces to playful gullies. We ski down and with short traverse in the end, we are able to ski down to our starting point. We get in 4×4 ‘s vehicles and drive towards Ohrid, the UNESCO protected cultural and natural heritage site. We will settle in a hotel in the center of the city and dine out to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the memories of skiing we did in the day. Accommodation Hotel Nova Riviera 4* (or similar).

Rest day in Ohrid. Today we will enjoy a fine rest day in the city of Ohrid and the surrounding. We can option for a guided city tour followed by a fine lunch by the lake. Ohrid is UNESCO protected cultural heritage city that is home of number of historical sites, such as a medieval fortness, early christian basilicas, museums and lovely architecture. Ohrid is also gourmet place, having amazing small restaurants that make local traditional food mostly influenced by the vicinity of the lake. We can alsomoption for a wine tasting dinner trying the local vines that Macedonia is famous for. Acomodation in Hotel Nova Riviera 4*.
(We can add one more day of skiing in Mavrovo for the program, instead of the rest day in Ohrid. We will take the chairlift up in Mavrovo ski center and tour to Medenica Peak. It’s a 600 meters vertical ascent, with nice choice to ski down. We return to the ski center and ski down to the base. After that we use the transfer and go to Ohrid.)
Ski touring on Magaro Peak, Galichica National Park. The highest area of galichica National Park is positioned perfectly diving in the two biggest natural lakes in Macedonia, Prespa and Ohrid. The mountain its self offers beautiful ski touring possibilities, where on a good day you feel like skiing from sea to summit. The highest peak in Galichica-Magaro is 2254 meters asl, offering a great terrain for skiing. The choice can be steep coulaars or wide playful meadows, all which spiced up with a great view towards the lakes. After the ski down, it is almost mandatory to enjoy a fine beer by the lake. Accomodation in Ohrid, Hotel Nova Riviera 4*(or similar).

Length: 14 km
Ski touring on Yablanica Mountain. After breakfast we check out and drive for about 45 minutes to the outskirts of the city of Struga, and the village Gorna Belica our starting point of the day. We start touring at 1450 meters asl through a beautiful beech forest and exit on a high mountain plateau. From there we can choose the ascent to Chumin peak or Black rock peak, both just above 2200 meters asl. Chumin peak offers a woderfull line towards Albania, as well as, several short and steep gullies. Black Rock Peak which is the highest of the mountain, offers us an a great bowl for skiing. Once again, a beautiful view opens toward Ohrid Lake, with the several mountain ranges also catching our eye. overnight in Ohrid, Hotel Nova Riviera 4* (or similar).

Ski down: 700 meters
Length: 13 km
Transport to airport and departure.
- Mid-size comfortable rucksack (35 litres is ok size) with paded straps and waist belt, internal frame preferred, waterproof liner recommended keeping clothing, etc, dry inside. Preferably
- Avalanche safety backpack
- Avalanche safety beeper, shovel and probe
- Warm clothes, both for windy/cold daytime conditions and for the cool eveneing
- Scharseizen – ski crampons
- Ski or snowboard boot crampons
- Ice axe (if necessary Shar Outdoors can provide an Ice Axe for you)
- Sunglasses, sun hat or crap, sun block
- Watter bottle
- Wash bag and simple first aid kit( plasters, or blister kit, aspirin or similar, antiseptic and medicine for personal use)
- Photographers: bring your cameras.
- Torch(head torch recommended)
Guides & safety
Our guides have experience of minimum 6 – 10 years guiding in the area and are experienced free riders. We always provide 2 guides for each group (on ehead and one tail guide) to provide maximum safety for your backcountry experience. Additional, we provide you with all neccesary security equipment such as avalanche beacon and ABS avalanche backpack free of charge.
We have on disposal freeride ski and ski touring equipment for rental from the brand ELAN SKIS. Please enquiry beforehand.
Our guides have the right to change the program or cancel due to unexpected conditions in order to provide maximum safety for the group. All participants should be reasonably fit and must have proper equipment for avalanche rescue: ABS Avalanche backpack or similar, probe, shovel, and transceiver. It will be provided by Sharoutdoors at no additional cost.
You are staying at the 4**** Hotel Scardus in Popova Shapka. The hotel has night bar, restaurant, ski room, laundry, conferencehall, SPA center with which there are 2 sauna, Jacuzzi, two swimming pools (adults and children), Turkish bath and fitness, whille massage goes according to guest’s request. It offers Wi-fi thorught all areas of the hotel public place. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes with international cuisine with high quality in a relaxing and beautiful ambient.
Skopje can be easily reached from anywhere in the World and it offers a modern airport. For example. the budget airline Wizzair offers cheap flights to Skopje several times a week from all major destinations in Europe such as: Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin, Memmingen, Dortmund, London, Paris, Bratislava and many more.

BOOKINGPOLICY 30% deposit is required to secure your spot, with the remainder due to 40 days prior tothe arrival date. If your request for arrival is lesser than 40 days we request full payment in advance. Use the form bellow to request a quote, or request additional information regarding our availability. As soon as you are ready to finalise your booking we require a 30% deposit and we will handle payment, which can be transferred via bank transfer. Due to current situation with COVID-19 we have updated our cancellation / refund policy related to it.
Canccellation / Refund Policy
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have brought up revised cancellation/refund policy suitable to cover possible obstacles for realizing an already booked tour. We have therefore updated our booking T&C for the upcoming season to provide our clients with maximum peace of mind. We have included two options specific to COVID related cancellations. If you have any further questions related to T&C send us an email in the form bellow.
Per Client Request
More than 40 days prior to your arrival date: We will gladly hold and apply your deposit to a future booking. So if you do not wish to transfer the deposit, we will offer a refund if we are able to find another group or individual to fill the booking. Otherwise your deposit remains non-refundable. Less than 40 days prior your arrival date: Full payments made are trasnferable 50% refundable. The transfers of the deposit is valid for the current or the following season.
We cannot offer refunds for missed reservations, early departures, turbulent weather/extreme avalanche danger, snow conditions, or force majeure events beyond COVID – 19 pandemic, and are not responsible for additional expenses incurred in prepparing the trip (e.g. airline tickets visa aplications fees, equipment purchases etc.)
We reserve the right to cancel a tour at any time due to unsettling political, social or envioremental events, at which time we will offer a refund of all payments made less the deposit.
